Description

Ingredients

For the Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1½ tsp baking powder

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • ¾ cup milk

For the Custard Filling

  • 2 cups milk

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch

  • 2 egg yolks

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 Tbsp unsalted butter

For the Strawberry Layer

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced

  • 2 Tbsp sugar

  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Optional Topping

  • Whipped cream

  • Fresh strawberries

  • Powdered sugar



Instructions

1. Prepare the Cake

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).

  • Grease and flour a round or square baking pan.

  • In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.

  • In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  • Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.

  • Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, mixing until smooth.

  • Pour batter into the pan and bake for 30–35 minutes.

  • Let cool completely.

2. Make the Custard

  • In a saucepan, whisk sugar, cornstarch, egg yolks, and milk.

  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.

  • Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla.

  • Let custard cool slightly.

3. Prepare the Strawberries

  • Toss sliced strawberries with sugar and lemon juice.

  • Let sit for 10–15 minutes to release juices.

4. Assemble the Cake

  • Slice the cake horizontally if using layers, or keep it single-layer.

  • Spread a generous layer of custard over the cake.

  • Add strawberries evenly on top.

  • Optional: add whipped cream layer before topping.

5. Chill & Serve

  • Refrigerate for 1–2 hours to set.

  • Garnish with whipped cream, fresh strawberries, or powdered sugar before serving.
