                Festive Candy Cane Pizza Breadsticks

These fun and festive pizza-style breadsticks are shaped like candy canes and topped with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese. They’re a quick holiday appetizer or snack that’s easy to prepare in about 25 minutes and great for parties or family cooking. They’re also vegetarian-friendly and can be customized with different cheeses or seasonings.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (about 13.8 oz) refrigerated pizza dough — for fast, simple preparation

  • ½ cup marinara or pizza sauce — for the red “stripe”

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or fresh mozzarella slices — for the white portion

  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano or Italian seasoning — adds classic pizza flavor

  • 1 Tbsp olive oil — brushed on dough edges for a golden crust

  • Fresh herbs like thyme or basil (optional) — for garnish

Instructions

1. Prep Oven & Pan

Preheat your oven to about 400 °F (200 °C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

2. Shape the Dough

Unroll the refrigerated pizza dough on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into strips about 1 inch wide. Twist each strip gently and then bend one end to make a candy cane shape. Place the shaped strips on the baking sheet with space between them.

3. Add Sauce & Cheese

Spread or spoon marinara sauce over each dough strip in a swirling pattern to mimic the red stripes of a candy cane. Then add mozzarella in between the sauce areas for the white stripes.

4. Season & Bake

Brush the exposed dough edges with olive oil and sprinkle with dried oregano or Italian seasoning. Bake in the preheated oven for about 12–15 minutes, until the dough is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

5. Garnish & Serve

Let them cool for a couple of minutes after baking. If you like, top with fresh thyme or basil before serving. They’re best served warm, optionally with extra marinara sauce on the side for dipping.

Tips & Variations

  • For a crispier bottom crust, bake directly on a lightly greased baking sheet (skip the parchment).

  • Add a sprinkle of garlic powder for extra savory flavor.

  • Try other cheeses like provolone or a blend of cheeses for different tastes.

  • Mix a pinch of red pepper flakes into the sauce if you want a bit of heat.

  • You can prepare them ahead of time — shape and top the dough, refrigerate, then bake when ready.

Storage

Leftovers can be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2–3 days. Reheat in the oven (about 350 °F / 175 °C) for 5–7 minutes to bring back some crispiness and melt the cheese.
